My students and I are beginning our second math block this week. In preparing for this block a few things were present in my mind.
- Here and now, Northern Idaho at the beginning of February, we’ve hit the doldrums of winter and we’re starting to need something a little lively to keep us going.
- Of all the subjects, math has the greatest potential for being brought in a dull and lifeless way.
- Of all the subjects, math has the greatest potential for being enlivened by the teacher.
It’s true. Though I was taught math in a mostly dull and lifeless way, since I became a teacher I have realized how possible it is to make math lively and fun. Math is truly everywhere and making it interesting is just a matter of looking around you to see the math in the universe.
Over the next couple of weeks I’ll post some of the interesting, exciting things we’ve done in our math block.

I look forward to hearing more about this. I’m going through a teacher training program right now to become a public school, middle grades math teacher. My number one goal is to make math meaningful, interesting and fun. ‘Cause it is! 🙂

I am really looking forward to it. I’m a pre – service teacher an I really want to know or to have an idea on how to make my class as lively like in their other classes.
