When we get back from the break I’ll be teaching a three-week block on the Waldorf ancient civilizations block — including Mesopotamia and Egypt. So, what goes in the school bag that I’m bringing along on my holiday travels?
First, the go-to book for teaching Ancient Civilizations in fifth grade — Charles Kovacs’ Ancient Mythologies. I used this book last time around and will use it again. It tells the stories in a friendly way, so that, if truly pressed, a teacher could tell them word for word from the book. Definitely a not-to-be-missed resource.
What else will I bring? My computer. Yes, I get lots of ideas from the internet. I haven’t had much luck with finding story content there (the things I find are usually too dry and unimaginative) but what I use the internet for a lot are ideas for artistic work. Which reminds me. . .
I’ll also bring my colored pencils, and my main lesson book. I’ll feel so ahead of the game if I get the first couple pages of the book done over the break.
Hopefully I’ll get lots of work done and have lots to share over the next couple of weeks.
